Meghan McCain calls out Mindy Kaling after her former producer makes 'cruel' jab about her audiobook

Meghan McCain has called out Mindy Kaling on Twitter — for being professionally associated with a comedy writer and producer who mocked McCain’s upcoming audiobook.

On Friday, the View co-host announced that she will write and perform an audiobook about her conservative views. The Audible Original collaboration will be released next year.

“I think in the times that we’re in, when it seems like everyone has either completely abandoned every conservative ideal they’ve had and gone full never-Trump, or gone full psycho-Trump-MAGA, there’s got to be something for the rest of us and I hope this book is it,” she said during Friday’s show.

But the project isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. In a tweet that has since been deleted, writer and producer David Stassen who reacted to the announcement by tweeting, “Who in the f*** is going to buy this s***?”

Unfortunately for Stassen, McCain herself caught wind of his diss. She responded by calling his comment “cruel,” then tagged Kaling, whose former sitcom, The Mindy Project, had Stassen as a producer and director. The TV series ended in 2017, and while Stassen continues to work closely with former Mindy Project star Ike Barinholtz — the lead of Stassen’s upcoming feature-length directorial debut, Happy Life — he and Kaling no longer appear to work together.

Even so, Kaling ended up in McCain’s crosshairs, with the latter tweeting, “I know we can’t be judged by everyone we work with but still.” She did clarify that she “greatly admires” Kaling.

Stassen eventually deleted the tweet. Neither he not Kaling, who is promoting her update on Four Weddings and a Funeral, have commented further. Many of Kaling’s fans, however, stood up for the former Office star and criticized McCain for involving her. Another cited McCain’s past complaint about getting blamed for her husband, Ben Domenech’s, political stances.

Others accused McCain of playing the “victim card,” though she did have support from fans who criticized Stassen’s tweet and expressed their interest in her audiobook.
