Meghan Markle’s ‘Suits’ co-star calls out ‘archaic and toxic’ royal family in fiery tweets

A few days shy of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's anticipated TV interview with Oprah Winfrey, some of the former Meghan Markle's friends and former co-stars are coming to her defense.

Meghan, a former actor who was known for her role on the USA Network drama "Suits" before departing in 2018, was the subject of a lengthy Twitter thread posted Friday by her co-star, Patrick J. Adams, who played her love interest during their seven-season run on the show.

"Meghan Markle and I spent the better part of a decade working together on Suits," the 39-year-old tweeted. "From day one she was an enthusiastic, kind, cooperative, giving, joyful and supportive member of our television family. She remained that person and colleague as fame, prestige and power accrued."

Following the release of video previews ahead of the Oprah interview, including one where Meghan accuses the royal family of “perpetuating falsehoods” about her and husband Prince Harry, a British newspaper published a report in which former staffers claim the duchess bullied them during her time at Kensington Palace in 2018.

Buckingham Palace released a statement in response Wednesday saying an investigation will take place.

A spokesperson for Harry and Meghan refuted the allegations in a statement to TODAY: "We are disappointed to see this defamatory portrayal of The Duchess of Sussex given credibility by a media outlet. It’s no coincidence that distorted several-year-old accusations aimed at undermining The Duchess are being briefed to the British media shortly before she and The Duke are due to speak openly and honestly about their experience of recent years."

Adams also tweeted that Meghan "has always been a powerful woman with a deep sense of morality and a fierce work ethic and has never been afraid to speak up, be heard and defend herself and those she holds dear."

"It sickened me to read the endless racist, slanderous, clickbaiting vitriol spewed in her direction from all manner of media across the UK and the world but I also knew that Meghan was stronger than people realized or understood and they would regret underestimating her," he continued.

Adams went on to mention Meghan and Harry's 1-year-old son, Archie.

"And then they welcomed Archie," he tweeted. "And on any sort of decent planet that would be a time to stop sharpening the knives and let these two people enjoy the magical early months and years of starting a family. But we don’t live on that planet and instead the hunt continued."

Harry and Meghan revealed last month that they're expecting their second child. They made one joint appearance since the announcement, and Harry has since appeared for an interview on "The Late Late Show With James Corden."

"It’s OBSCENE that the Royal Family, who’s newest member is currently GROWING INSIDE OF HER, is promoting and amplifying accusations of 'bullying' against a woman who herself was basically forced to flea the UK in order protect her family and her own mental health," Adams also wrote.

He went on to say that the latest drama "is just another stunning example of the shamelessness of a institution that has outlived its relevance, is way overdrawn on credibility and apparently bankrupt of decency."

The actor closed his Twitter thread with a message similar to one viewers would expect from his "Suits" character, Mike Ross: "Find someone else to admonish, berate and torment. My friend Meghan is way out of your league."

The creator of "Suits," Aaron Korsh, also shared his support for Meghan on Twitter Friday, writing, "Meghan Markle is not a monster. She’s a strong woman with a kind heart who’s trying to make her way in an unimaginable situation."

Also on Friday, Jessica Mulroney, Meghan's longtime friend and confidant, took to Instagram to share her own words of support.

"I don’t know that anyone has ever had to deal with the pressure, the politics and the press like this woman," she wrote in the caption of a photo showing the pair out for dinner. "In the face of it all, I have never seen her waver from kindness, empathy and love."

In a lengthy post on Instagram Friday night, Abigail Spencer, another former "Suits" co-star, shared a tribute to Meghan.

"I've learned so much from Meg. The power of a handwritten note. The loveliness of surprise flowers. That she has a perpetual rolodex in her brain of recommendations for the heart, soul, & body," Spencer wrote, in part. "When I’m headed to a new town, there’s a hotel or dinner reservation at the ready, as well as a connection with one of her friends to show me around so I feel less alone."

She added that Meghan has been a "safe harbor" for her on more than one occasion.

"She’s been there for me - and physically held me - in my darkest hours: After my dad died. After a gut wrenching break up she brought me into her home & nursed me back to health. Soup & salad waiting in the kitchen, just, if I needed it," Spencer wrote. "She’s taken my son in as her own. I can’t tell you the value of having another working mother I can lean on when with the pressures of visibility & child-rearing woes become overwhelming. She’s always been a safe harbor for me, someone I can fall apart in front of... and with. And I have."
