Meghan Markle shines for first public appearance since emotional TV interview
Pretty in purple!
The Duchess of Sussex stepped out on Tuesday evening to attend the opening ceremony of the One Young World summit, which was held at the Royal Albert Hall in London. The organization, which partnered with The Queen's Commonwealth Trust to bring 53 young representatives across the commonwealth for the event, acts as a forum for young leaders to tackle some of the biggest issues we face globally.
The royal has long been active with the summit. She first attended in 2014 at Dublin's summit, speaking on women's rights and equality. She also attended the summit in 2016, which was held in Ottawa.
“When I was asked to be a Counsellor at One Young World my response was a resounding 'yes’" she said about her involvement with the organization. "One Young World invites young adults from all over the world who are actively working to transform the socio-political landscape by being the greater good. They are delegates who are speaking out against human rights violations, environmental crises, gender equality issues, discrimination and injustice. They are the change.”
For the opening ceremony on Tuesday, the duchess opted for a purple dress from Aritzia, which is still available in black, and blue Manolo Blahnik pumps. Her outing marks her first public appearance since her emotional interview with Prince Harry that aired Sunday night in the United Kingdom.
"I don't think anybody could understand that, but in all fairness, I had no idea—which probably sounds difficult to understand here—but when I first met my now-husband, my friends were really happy because I was so happy, but my British friends said to me, 'I'm sure he's great, but you shouldn't do it, because the British tabloids will destroy your life,'" Meghan said in the documentary, which followed the couple around during their 10-day tour of Africa earlier this month.
