Meghan Markle, Prince Harry are considering a 'second base' outside of the UK: report

Just a week and a half after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex opened up about their treatment by the British tabloids in an emotional documentary interview, new reports reveal that the couple is considering "establishing a second base" outside of the United Kingdom.

"It’s not possible for them to be [in the U.K.] like this,” said an insider to People magazine. “There’s more pressure now. There’s a shift that is happening.” The sources close to the couple say that the United States, Canada and Africa could make for a possible home for the family of three.

Prince Harry had previously opened up about the possibility of moving to Africa in the documentary "Harry & Meghan: An African Journey," a place he had earlier deemed as his "escape" following Princess Diana's death in 1997.

“I don’t know where we could live in Africa at the moment,” Harry said in the interview, which was filmed during the couple's 10-day tour to the continent. “We’ve just come from Cape Town, that would be an amazing place for us to be able to base ourselves ― of course it would. But with all the problems that are going on there, I just don’t see how we would be able to make as much difference as we want to without the issues and the judgment of how we would be with those surroundings.”

He did, however, mention that much of his and Meghan's work as royals will be dedicated to Africa. "It’s a very hard place to live when you know what’s going on but then you’re sort of slightly disconnected from it. So, the rest of our lives, our life’s work will be predominately focused on Africa, on conservation. There are 19 Commonwealth countries across this continent so there’s a lot of things to be done, but there’s also huge potential.”

Rumors of the family's move first began in April, although Buckingham Palace has yet to comment on the matter.

“Any future plans for The Duke and Duchess are speculative at this stage. No decisions have been taken about future roles,” the palace released in a statement. “The Duke will continue to fulfill his role as Commonwealth Youth Ambassador.”

It was announced earlier this month that starting in November, the parents to Archie will be taking a (well deserved) six-week break from their royal duties to travel to the United States to spend Thanksgiving with Meghan's family in Los Angeles. The family is also thought to be paying a visit to Toronto, Canada, where Meghan was based during her "Suits" days and where her best friend Jessica Mulroney resides with her family.

“This would be Harry’s first Thanksgiving in the States,” continued the source to People. “It will be nice for them to be around people that love them and have him understand her traditions too.”
