During media availability ahead of Notre Dame’s Camping World Bowl appearance in December of 2019, then-head coach Brian Kelly spoke about the desire to up recruiting efforts. Instead of having classes that peaked at perhaps the tail end of the top 10 nationally, he wanted to get Notre Dame to finish in the top five.
As it turns out, in order to get there then some things needed changing. Kelly did a ton of good but his efforts on the recruiting trail weren’t impactful enough for Notre Dame to reach that top-five mark he shot for. One full year of Marcus Freeman however and the Irish are knocking on the door of finishing with a top-five class.
As of December 7, 2022, Notre Dame has 27 commitments in the class. The latest ones are quarterback Kenny Minchey of Tennessee, offensive lineman Chris Terek of Illinois, receiver Kaleb Smith of Texas, and athlete Brandyn Hillman of Virginia. 247Sports rates the Irish as having the third-best class nationally as of this posting.
