Medford schools limits spectators at competitions

Jan. 25—Medford School District will limit the number of spectators allowed at its sporting events until at least the end of January to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

In its "Main Things" newsletter for families, available online, the district said the changes would impact middle and high school sports, consistent with what other schools are doing in the South West Conference.

"We will review these changes at the end of January," the district newsletter stated.

For middle school basketball, each athlete will receive two passes for home games and one pass for away contests. For wrestling, each athlete will receive one pass for home meets and away meets.

For high school large-gym meets, each athlete will receive four tickets for home contests and two for away. For small-gym meets, each athlete will receive two tickets for home contests and one for away.

With the exception of athletes who are in competition, everyone over 5 years old is expected to wear a mask inside the venues. Concessions will not be open for food or drinks.

"We SO appreciate your cooperation, as adhering to the guidance will help us continue to allow spectators to play," the district's newsletter said.
