Med City skin care clinic ready to make its move

May 6—After months of preparation, Essence Skin Clinic is ready to move into its new digs in Rochester's Kutzky Park neighborhood.

Essence owner Jennifer Sanneman says she will be ready to open for customers on Monday in the much larger location at 1640 W. Center St. on the street-level of the Avani Living apartment complex by the Miracle Mile Shopping Center.

"We're very excited. It's very modern with a very clean design," she said of the clinic, which has 10 procedure rooms compared to the five of the current location.

Essence offers a variety of skin services such as Botox, fillers, laser treatments, facials, waxing and more to help men and women feel more confident about their appearances. The move to the spot on the corner of First Avenue and Second Street Southwest will bring Essence closer to Mayo Clinic patients and employees at Saint Marys Hospital.

"It has been a neat ... smooth transition," said Sanneman of the moving process. "It's almost like a dream come true."

Her team is growing by four employees to nine at the new location, which will include some new services, like massage.

The downtown spa at 23 Second St. SW in the historic Odd Fellows Building will close on Saturday, ending an eight-year-run there. Sanneman spent many years in downtown Rochester in the Second Street location and prior to that in the Riverside Building at 400 S. Broadway.

"I loved being downtown, but things have changed so much," she said. "There's been so much construction. The noise is crazy. I won't miss that."

While she will miss her downtown neighbors, such as Eagle Drug, Sanneman said her new neighbors, such as Fiddlehead Coffee Co. have been very welcoming.

Essence Manager Brooke Sanneman said the clinic will also help new neighbor, Total Vision Eyecare, celebrate its one-year anniversary and support the non-profit Doc's Recovery House.

Essence, Fiddlehead and Total Vision will be collecting donations for the addiction recovery community as well as offering special deals. On May 15, the Bleu Duck food truck will be on hand as part of the official celebration.
