McDonald's (MCD) is cashing in on the growing popularity of veganism and the trend for eating less meat with its new 99p meat-free Monday menu.

The fast food chain is offering its new “veggie dippers” and the “vegetable deluxe burger” for just 99p on Monday as part of its ‘Month of Deals’ promotion.

The promotion offers different deals each day from 4–27 January to users of the McDonald’s app.

The new veggie dippers product, which was launched last week and has been accredited vegan by the Vegetarian Society, is part of the brand’s attempt to cater for customers with different dietary requirements.

The new product follows the current trend for cutting down on meat consumption with initiatives such as “Veganuary”, in which participants go vegan for the month of January, and “Meat Free Mondays” which encourages people not to eat meat once a week.

Thomas O’Neill, head of food marketing at McDonald’s UK & Ireland, said: “In the last 12 months we’ve seen an 80% uplift in customers ordering vegetarian options at McDonald’s, so it is time for the brand famous for the dippable McNugget to launch a dippable option for our vegetarian, vegan and flexitarian customers. The veggie dippers are a delicious addition to our menu and we are delighted to be giving customer the chance to trial these, alongside our vegetable deluxe for just 99p on Monday.”
