Jun. 28—DICKINSON — During a special meeting Tuesday morning at City Hall, Mayor Scott Decker publicly swore in Dr. Robert Baer and Commissioner Jason Fridrich to the Dickinson City Commission.

Baer

won an uncontested race during the

June 14 primary election

for the open seat on the board of commissioners with 1,160 votes. Fridrich was reappointed for another four-year term, receiving 1,133 votes.

As the newest member of the commission board, Baer said that he's overjoyed.

"It's like the first day of school, it's very exciting. But (I'm) very nervous too — a little anxiety there," Baer said. "But it feels natural and (I'm) looking forward to working with the other commissioners and the employees here at the City and of course, the residents of Dickinson."

As far as the Dickinson City Commission committee assignments, Baer said that of all his assigned duties, he's excited to be put on the Dickinson Regional Airport Authority and the Joachim Museum Board for the Southwest North Dakota Museum Foundation.

"... I got to learn, right? And what better way to start off right away learning. So I plan to be here for a long time," Baer said. "I'm excited. I am really looking forward to this and I thank everyone for giving me this opportunity. So that's really important to me and hopefully I can earn their trust."

During the special meeting, Commissioner Suzi Sobolik made a motion to make Commissioner John Odermann the vice president of the

Dickinson City Commission

. Baer seconded the motion, and the board unanimously approved 5-0 the vice president appointment.

The next Dickinson City Commission meeting will take place at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, within the commission chambers at City Hall.
