New mayor, council convenes first meeting in Westover

Jul. 7—WESTOVER — The city of Westover is officially under new leadership.

The city's newly-elected mayor, Bob Lucci, and council—Steve Andryzcik, Duane Tatar, Edie Viola, Shawna Cross, Jeffrey Friend and Ali Jackson—convened, albeit briefly, for the first time earlier this week.

Members of council are paid $80 per meeting. Lucci will earn $55, 000 per year to serve as the city's chief executive.

Once down to business, Police Chief Joe Adams said police applicants are becoming ever more difficult to come by and asked the city move on a pair of potential officers.

He said the WPD intends to give another entry level exam on Aug. 27.

"There's not a lot of people wanting to be police officers right now and these guys are testing for other agencies, " he said. "There's another agency about a week behind us, and we if we pass, they'll get them."

Andryzcik said a meeting of the city's police commission has been set for Friday.

In other Westover news, City Clerk Sandie Weis said council meeting agendas and minutes are now available at westoverwv.org.

Lastly, Lucci said interested parties will just have to exercise a little patience when it comes to the future of the former Shop 'n Save building, located at 828 Fairmont Road.

It was announced last week that the building had sold, leading to significant speculation on social media.

"I've heard different things. But I can't disclose any of that, " Lucci said. "It'll be out soon enough. It's not going to be a secret."
