Matt Lauer and Meredith Vieira 'never spoke again' after his 'Today' show firing: report

Matt Lauer and Meredith Vieira's friendship is no more.

The former "Today" show co-anchors, who were the faces of the NBC morning show for five years together from 2006 until 2011, have cut ties from one another since Lauer's firing from NBC News in November 2017.

"Matt Lauer and Meredith Vieira never spoke again since his firing," a source told People this week.

The information follows the the latest round of scandal for Lauer, who was accused by former NBC News employee Brooke Nevils of rape in a newly-released excerpt from Ronan Farrow's new book, "Catch and Kill: Lies, Spies, and a Conspiracy to Protect Predators."

In the book, which is the first public reveal of Nevils' name, she claims that Lauer raped her at the 2014 Sochi Olympics, allegedly forcing her to have anal sex in his hotel room despite her saying that she verbally expressed that she didn't want to do so.

While she initially kept the incident to herself and carried on having what she calls "transational" sex with Lauer on several occasions back in New York City, Nevils eventually confided in Vieira, who she worked for at the time of the alleged rape.

It was Vieira who pushed her to report her allegation to NBC News, according to her interview in "Catch and Kill," though she reportedly didn't disclose her rape claim when she did so, in November 2017. NBC still fired Lauer less than 24 hours later for sexual misconduct in the workplace, carrying on an inappropriate relationship with a subordinate at the company.

Last month, Vieira called Lauer's firing "like a gut punch" in an interview with People.

"I was [in L.A.] and my phone started going off at 4 a.m.," she explained. "I didn't know what to make of all of it. It was a shock."

"Matt and I were very close," she went on. "He was very kind to me. We both have similar senses of humor. We're both sarcastic."

For his part, Lauer has vehemently denied that he raped Nevils. In an open letter published this week, the disgraced television personality called their relationship "extramarital, but consensual."
