Matt Buckler: Mike Tyson hits Hulu for new series

Aug. 8—It never was a good idea to get Mike Tyson angry. After all, he hit people for a living.

The former boxing champion is upset, however, and Hulu, the streaming service, is his target. Tyson claims that Hulu stole his life to make an upcoming biographical series and didn't consult him or pay him.

Apparently, Hulu left Tyson with the short end of the punching bag.

"Don't let Hulu fool you," Tyson said via Instagram last week. "I don't support their story about my life."

"Mike," which will debut Aug. 25 on Hulu, stars Trevante Rhodes in the title role.

Considering all the publicity that Tyson has generated during his life, Hulu really doesn't need his help to produce a limited and accurate series about him. There is plenty of material out there. Tyson didn't live his life in the shadows.

Still, you have to have some sympathy for Tyson. His life is so unusual, you couldn't make it up, no matter how talented the script writers are. No athlete in the history of sports has a story quite like Tyson's.

So he should have been compensated for making it possible.

Tyson took the hits during his career. Hulu, however, is making the money. He should be angry.
