The Detroit Tigers announced Friday that wearing face masks inside Comerica Park is no longer required, beginning with Saturday's 4:10 p.m. game against the Chicago Cubs. Previously, fans had to wear masks in accordance to state-mandated COVID-19 protocols.

It's unclear if the capacity limits will change. A Michigan health department order from March currently allows 20% capacity at Comerica Park, which is roughly 8,200 spectators.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Thursday that fully vaccinated Americans do not need to wear face masks or socially distance outdoors and in most indoor situations. On Friday, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer followed CDC guidance by lifting the mask requirement.

People who are not fully vaccinated must continue to wear masks indoors.

At 9 a.m. Saturday, Michigan residents will officially not have to wear a mask indoors. The exceptions: Planes, buses, trains and public transportation.

For those not fully vaccinated, the mask mandate in Michigan is scheduled to expire after July 1.
