Marvel has unveiled the first glimpse of the Hawkeye spin-off series Echo.

Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox), aka Echo, is a Deaf Cheyenne woman with Olympic-level athletic skills who possesses the ability to imitate other people's movements.

In Hawkeye, Echo was shown to be the leader of the Tracksuit Mafia, a gang of criminals working under Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio).

In Echo, Maya will be forced to face her past, reconnect with her Native American roots and embrace the meaning of family and community so she can move forward.

The series is being directed by Native filmmakers Sydney Freeland and Catriona McKenzie.

The highly anticipated series is currently shooting in Atlanta, and is set to premiere on Disney+ in 2023.

Echo was first created in 1999 as a supporting character for Daredevil and Cox previously opened up about being given the chance to lead her own show following her acclaimed performance in Hawkeye.

"It's just so crazy that I'm getting my own show after Hawkeye. That was like my first acting role, ever," she said.

"I don't know why they're giving me this opportunity, but I'm just grateful. I'm excited for the support and being able to advocate for the Deaf community. We want to have that equality and get more people involved. I'm just so grateful for all of the opportunities I've been given."

She continued: "It's crazy how much my life has already changed because I was a college dropout. I worked at a factory. I'm so excited to show people who I am and what I can do, what anybody can do."

Meanwhile, the next MCU series to drop on Disney+ will be Ms Marvel, which is set to premiere on June 8.
