Marion County restaurant inspections: Jan. 3-10 critical violations

The Louisiana Department of Health performs regular inspections of restaurants and stores that sell food. These are the local results of those inspections.

The following restaurant inspections with critical violations were conducted by Marion Public Health between Jan. 4 and Jan. 10:

Pierce's Pizza & Drive Thru, 205 E. Battle St., Prospect, Jan. 4. Food not properly protected from contamination by separation, packaging, and segregation (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed eggs to be stored above ready-to-eat foods in the upright cooler. Refrigerated, ready-to-eat, TCS foods not properly date marked (critical, corrected). Observed taco meat that had been in the upright cooler for two days to not be date marked.

Coonies Bar & Restaurant, 25 N. High St., LaRue, Jan. 4. Quaternary ammonium sanitizing solution at incorrect temperature, concentration, and/or water hardness (critical repeat, corrected during inspection). Observed sanitizer level at the bar to be too low. Refrigerated, ready-to-eat, TCS foods not properly date marked (critical repeat, corrected). Observed several items in coolers throughout the facility to not be date marked.

Al's Country Market, 3249 Harding Harding West, Marion, Jan. 4. Food not properly protected from contamination by separation, packaging, and segregation (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed eggs to be stored above ready-to-eat foods in the stand-up cooler and the walk-in cooler.

La Condesa Grocery Store #3, 1297 Mt. Vernon Ave, Marion, Jan. 5. Food package(s) received in poor condition (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed dented cans on shelves. Food not properly protected from contamination by separation, packaging and segregation (critical, corrected). Did not observe food on top the meat case to be protected from contamination during the time of inspection. Missing and/or incomplete allergen declaration(s) (critical). Did not observe allergen declarations on bulk pastry items. Correct by Jan. 26.

Village Pizza, 429 S. Water St., Caledonia, Jan. 5. TCS foods not being cold held at the proper temperature (critical). Observed pizza make table to not be holding temperature. Correct by Jan. 12. TCS foods not being cold held at the proper temperature (critical). Observed sub make table cooler to be at 51 degrees. Cooler will need to be fixed before it is used again. Correct by Jan. 12. Ready-to-eat, TCS food not properly discarded when required (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed cheese sauce in stand-up cooler that was being held past its disposition date. Person in charge (PIC) disposed of sauce.

East of Chicago Pizza, 1322 Mt. Vernon Ave., Marion, Jan. 6. Handwashing sink is being used for purposes other than handwashing (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed two hand sinks in the facility to have food in them during the time of inspection.

Marion Diner, 1565 Marion-Waldo Road, Marion, Jan. 6. Food not properly protected from contamination by separation, packaging and segregation (critical repeat, corrected during inspection). Observed eggs in walk-in cooler to be stored above RTE foods. Food not properly protected from contamination by separation, packaging and segregation (critical, corrected). Did not observe lids on food items in both the walk-in cooler and the reach-in cooler. Improper reheating of food for hot holding (critical, corrected). Observed foods intended for hot holding that were previously held in the walk-in cooler to be re-heated in hot holding unit. PIC began re-heating foods properly during the time of inspection. Refrigerated, ready-to-eat, TCS foods not properly date marked (critical, corrected). Observed foods in walk-in cooler that did not have dates on them.

Save-A-Lot #21488, 1306 Mt. Vernon Ave., Marion, Jan. 6. Food package(s) received in poor condition (critical repeat, corrected during inspection). Observed dented cans on shelves. Dented cans were removed from shelves during the time of inspection. TCS foods not being cold held at the proper temperature (critical, corrected). Observed island cooler to not be functioning properly. PIC disposed of food in cooler and placed a work order to have the cooler fixed.

Clase All Occasions Catering LLC, 6989 Waldo-Delaware Road, Waldo, Jan. 9. TCS foods not being cold held at the proper temperature (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed stand-up cooler to be measuring at 47 degrees Food was removed from this cooler and placed in a functioning cooler.

King Saver, 725 Richmond Ave., Marion, Jan. 9. Handwashing sink is being used for purposes other than handwashing (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed a hair net sitting in deli/produce hand washing sink. Food package(s) received in poor condition (critical repeat, corrected). Observed several dented cans on shelves. Cans found were removed from shelves during the time of inspection.

Steve's Dakota Grill, 1677 Marion-Mt. Gilead Road Suite 100, Marion, Jan. 10. Handwashing sink is being used for purposes other than handwashing (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed hand sink being used as a prep sink several times throughout the time of inspection. Food not properly protected from contamination by separation, packaging and segregation (critical, corrected). Observed ground beef being stored above whole cuts of beef in the meat cooler.

Pettibone's Bar and Grill, 306 S. Marion St., Waldo, Jan. 10. Food not properly protected from contamination by separation, packaging and segregation (critical, corrected during inspection). Observed eggs being stored above RTE foods in the make table. Ready-to-eat, TCS food not properly discarded when required (critical, corrected). Observed sauces in the make table to be held past their disposition date. PIC discarded them during the time of inspection.
