Man's body found near railroad tracks; Muncie police investigating

MUNCIE, Ind. — Muncie police are investigating after a city man's body was found Monday morning near railroad tracks on the city's west side.

The deceased man was later identified as 24-year-old Ian A. Pemberton. Deputy Coroner Lorri Strunk-Loser said an autopsy was conducted at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.

Deputy Police Chief Melissa Pease said the body was found along White River Boulevard between Nichols and Godman avenues. 911 dispatchers received a related call at 8:27 a.m.

As a result of the investigation, a train was stopped on tracks, blocking crossings on White River Boulevard, and Nichols and Kilgore avenues.

In a later news release, Muncie police said Pemberton had "sustained injuries that are believed to be the cause of death."

"There is nothing to suggest foul play at this time," according to the release.

Anyone with information on the events leading to the Muncie man's death is asked to contact Steve Cox, a Muncie Police Department captain, at the MPD criminal investigations division by calling 765-747-4867.
