Wasiewicz and Mr Bakalarz had been drinking vodka in a nearby cemetery in the morning, before a fight broke out at the house in Tor Church Road where they both had rooms.

Mr Lee Bremridge, defending, said Wasiewicz had been provoked by being attacked but had over reacted.

The trained engineer punched Mr Bakalarz in the face repeatedly before battering him with the microwave.

Mr Bremridge said: "The speed with which the argument escalated is reflected by the weapon that was used. It was not the most obvious, it was the microwave which had been knocked to the floor during the scuffle."
