Man wanted in fatal shooting of Brittany Booker arrested in Chicago Sunday morning

A man wanted in the fatal shooting of a Racine mother of six in April was arrested in Chicago Sunday morning, according to authorities.

Terry Jackson, 42, is accused of killing Brittany Booker, 30, about two months after he beat her and her friend with a hammer, Racine police said.

On the morning of April 24, Booker's oldest son called police to report his mother was missing and not answering her phone, according to a previous Journal Sentinel report. He had checked the doorbell cameras and saw his mother leaving the house with an unknown man earlier that morning.

Jackson is accused of entering Booker's home, assaulting her with her children present and taking her into her vehicle, according to a Sunday news release from the U.S. Marshals Service Eastern District of Wisconsin.

Officers found Booker's body in her car on April 24. She had suffered multiple injuries, including a gunshot wound to her head, police said.

Jackson was arrested Sunday by members of a U.S. Marshals Service task force based in Chicago, the news release said.

Members of the task force saw Jackson in a window armed with a firearm, the news release said. After a brief standoff and negotiations, Jackson surrendered without incident. A firearm was recovered from the scene.

Racine police had quickly identified Jackson as a suspect in the death of Booker. He already had pending charges, including attempted homicide, in a February attack on Booker and a friend of hers inside George's Tavern on Main Streeta previous Journal Sentinel report said.

Jackson was charged in March in the tavern attack and an earlier incident involving Booker's friend. A warrant was issued for his arrest.

In April, police arrested three women accused of helping Jackson evade authorities after the hammer attack.

The investigation of Jackson spanned five states, including Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Texas and Arizona, the news release said.
