Man seriously injured in shooting near Springfield Apartments; at least 10th shooting of 2022

The Tallahassee Police Department is investigating a shooting near Springfield Apartments that left a man with serious injuries.

Around 10 p.m. Monday, an adult male called his friend and told her he had been shot, according to a TPD incident summary.

The man walked to his home at Springfield Apartments, 1700 Joe Louis Street, with a gunshot wound before police met him and "provided medical aid," the summary said.

TPD officers later transported him to a nearby hospital.

Much about this incident remains unknown including the exact location and circumstances of the shooting because "the victim provided limited information," according to TPD spokesperson Heather Merritt.

No arrests have been made.

Springfield Apartments shootings:

In mid-January, one man was shot and injured outside the same complex after a verbal argument escalated.

Springfield Apartments, which is owned and operated by the Tallahassee Housing Authority, was also the site of multiple shootings in 2020 and 2019, which left at least three people injured and two dead.

There have been at least 10 shootings in Tallahassee since the new year resulting in at least 8 injuries and three deaths, according to an analysis of gun violence by the Tallahassee Democrat.
