Man hit by car while fleeing deputies on U.S.-31

SPRING LAKE TWP. — A man was seriously injured after being hit by a car Saturday, Feb. 4, on U.S.-31 near Ferrysburg.

The crash happened around 6:54 p.m. near Van Wagoner Road in Spring Lake Township.

The 26-year-old Norton Shores man fled from deputies on foot after they attempted to conduct a traffic stop, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.

After crossing the median, the man was hit by a car traveling southbound on U.S.-31. He was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured.

The northbound and southbound lanes of U.S.-31 between Van Wagoner Road and Taft Street were closed while police investigated, but have since reopened.
