Man faces assault allegation after standoff with Battle Ground police
Mar. 1—A 32-year-old man was taken into custody Sunday night after a three-hour standoff with Battle Ground police officers.
Police were dispatched at 8:23 p.m. to a residence in the 1400 block of Northwest Second Avenue after two people fled the house. They reported that they'd been assaulted and threatened with a machete by a resident, according to a Battle Ground Police Department news release.
One of the victims needed medical treatment from a bite, according to the police department.
Responding officers learned that a third possible victim was still inside the home with the assault suspect. Police surrounded the house, and the third person exited in about 15 minutes.
The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Donald F. Scott, stayed inside and refused to come out, police said.
Officers requested a regional SWAT team to respond for support. Despite law enforcement's efforts, Scott did not exit the home, and SWAT officers used flash bangs and then "remote access" to communicate with him, according to the police department.
"At 11:42 p.m., just over three hours after the initial 911 call, the suspect exited the home and was arrested without further incident," the new release says.
Scott was arrested on suspicion of second-degree domestic violence assault and booked into the Clark County Jail.
Battle Ground Police Chief Mike Fort thanked the community for giving the officers space to work safely.
"I know this was disruptive to some citizens on a Sunday night, but your patience during the three-hour ordeal helped to bring this to a successful resolution," Fort said.
