Man dies in accident involving bus along I-24 in Nashville

A bus collided with a car along I-24 Sunday morning, killing one man, a Metro Nashville Police Department news release reported.

The accident occurred at 3:15 a.m. on the eastbound lane of the highway, near Haywood Lane.

The bus driver, who was transporting seven people, hit a 2011 Honda Civic that was stopped in a travel lane with no lights on. The driver told police "he was unable to avoid the collision," the news release said.

Two adult males were in the Civic, one of whom died and the other was seriously injured. First responders transported the injured male to Vanderbilt Medical Center, the news release said.

Investigators found evidence of alcohol inside the Civic and found that the vehicle was in park, with the light switch turned off.

Police said the injured male might face potential charges once law enforcement completes the investigation.

The driver and passengers on the bus were not injured.
