Man arrested for fatal shooting of man who arranged online to buy motorcycles on Bronx street

A Bronx man has been arrested for the fatal shooting of a Rockland County man who was ambushed after arranging a meeting to purchase two motorcycles, police said Sunday.

Manuel Reyes, 23, was charged with murder, manslaughter, assault and criminal possession of weapon for the Wednesday slaying of Jefferson Hernandez.

Hernandez, 20, was fatally shot on E. 144th St. and Exterior St. in Mott Haven about 3:40 p.m. after he rendezvoused online to purchase two Kawaski motorcycles, police sources said.

Hernandez, of Spring Valley, N.Y., brought along three friends and a U-Haul flatbed trailer to get the bikes back home.

The sellers went to grab paperwork, but instead of handing over the motorcycles, they fired off shots, striking Hernandez several times in the head.

Reyes and three other men then took off on two dirt bikes and two motorcycles, cops said.

Medics rushed Hernandez to Lincoln Hospital, but he could not be saved.

His friends were not injured in the barrage of bullets.

Reyes’ arraignment in Bronx Criminal Court was pending late Sunday.

Police are still searching for the other men involved in the killing.
