Man arrested in Boston in connection with November slaying of 36-year-old in Brockton

BROCKTON – Prosecutors say a man was arrested in Boston in connection with the November slaying of a 36-year-old father in Brockton.

The Plymouth County district attorney's office announced Sunday night that Shamallah Jones, 26, was arrested on a warrant in Boston and charged with the Nov. 9 shooting death of Gregory Grantsis, 36, of Brockton.

Early in the morning on Nov. 9, ShotSpotter, the city's electronic gunfire detection system, alerted police to seven rounds of gunfire near 76 Tremont St.

One victim, later identified as Grantsis, suffered a gunshot wound to the face and was taken by ambulance to Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:28 a.m., the DA's office said.

The second victim, a 38-year-old who wasn't identified, suffered gunshot wounds to the torso and leg. He was taken to Good Samaritan Medical Center for treatment of his injuries and survived.

A third person in the vehicle was not shot.

Since then, Brockton and State Police detectives assigned to the DA's office have been investigating the fatal shooting.

"As a result, investigators developed information and sought and obtained an arrest warrant for Shamallah Jones, 26," the DA's office said in a written statement Sunday night.

State, Brockton and Boston police located Jones at an address in Boston and he was arrested, the DA's office said Sunday. It wasn't immediately clear when the arrest took place.

Jones is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Brockton District Court on charges of murder, attempted murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury.
