Major Kentucky target back in play. And the top UK basketball recruiting links.

Kentucky has already landed one five-star recruit on the second try in the 2023 cycle. Might the Cats do it again?

Mookie Cook, the No. 5 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to the 247Sports rankings, has backed out of his commitment to the Oregon Ducks. The 6-foot-7 wing from Portland, Ore. originally committed to the Ducks in late March, and he was one of UK’s top recruiting targets before that.

Cook will play the role of a young LeBron James in a biopic due to be released next year, and his obligations for that project forced him to miss much of the spring basketball schedule. Still, he’s expected to be one of the most coveted recruits in the 2023 class. Before picking Oregon three months ago, his list of finalists also included Kentucky and Gonzaga. In the immediate aftermath of his decommitment, there was speculation in recruiting circles as to whether those two schools and/or the G League would reignite their pursuit. And more options are sure to pop up.

Last week, Kentucky landed five-star guard Robert Dillingham, who had committed to North Carolina State over UK in December before backing out of that pledge.
