Driver's lucky escape from motorway horror smash which completely crumpled back of car
A driver was lucky to escape uninjured after a horror crash on the M1 which left their car almost completely destroyed.
Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit tweeted shocking images from the scene of the crash, which took place near Mansfield between junctions 29 and 28 of the M1 at around 11pm on Monday night.
According to officers from the unit, a driver in a Volvo broke down in the slow lane and a lorry driver following behind failed to spot the stationary car.
The enormous freight vehicle then crashed into the back of the Volvo and pictures showed the devastation in the aftermath of the collision.
Pictures from the scene showed the rear half of the Volvo totally crumpled-in due to the force of the impact.
The lorry was left with only minor damage, but debris from the wreckage was strewn across the busy motorway.
The Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit tweeted: “Volvo breaks down in lane one. Lorry fails to see it and react in time and drives into it.

“Good job there was no one sat in the back. Break down in a live lane? Get out, quickly, call 999.”
The police force later tweeted: “Everyone ok with no injuries.”
The M1’s section of “smart motorway” has been under scrutiny after The Telegraph revealed last month that four people have died since it opened last year.
All the collisions took place after motorists failed to reach a safe lay-by, or Emergency Refuge Area.
Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit said yesterday’s crash had occurred outside the “smart” network but warned drivers over the dangers of breaking down on motorways.
