Lucas' Andrew Smollen named Mid-Buckeye Conference Player of the Year in baseball

Lucas ran through the Mid-Buckeye Conference with a perfect record in 2022 to capture its second consecutive league championship.

And the coaches of the MBC rewarded the Cubs for it.

Junior Andrew Smollen was named the MBC Player of the Year while coach Courtney Church shared MBC Co-Coach of the Year honors with Mansfield Christian's Cory Branham.

In all, five Cubs were named to the first team and seven overall made the list of postseason honors. Joining Smollen on the All-MBC first team were Hunter Church, Andrew Fanello, Hunter Rice and Patrick Bischel, while Bobby Grover was a second-team choice and Brayden Spitler was honorable mention.

Mansfield Christian's Landin Curtis and Isaac Hillman were first-team selections while Griffin Baker (second team) and Caleb Gregory (honorable mention) gave the Flames four players on the MBC postseason honors list.
