Former LSU QB leads Auburn to a win

John Reed-USA TODAY Sports

The start of game week for the LSU Tigers and Auburn Tigers couldn’t be any more interesting. On Saturday Bo Nix was benched in favor of former Tigers signal-caller T.J. Finley.

With Auburn facing an embarrassing loss at home to Georgia State, the Tigers went with the quarterback who transferred in following spring camp. Finley came into the game completing nine of 16 attempts for 97 yards and one touchdown.

More importantly, Finely engineered the game-winning drive that went 98 yards. On a fourth-down play in the red zone, he found Shedrick Jackson in the back of the end zone with just 0:45 left in the game.

The big question moving forward will revolve around the quarterback situation for Auburn heading into Saturday night in Death Valley. Will first-year head Bryan Harsin go back to the starter Bo Nix, or will he have T.J. Finley make his first start for Auburn in his home state of Louisiana?

We very well could see two quarterbacks who were together in the spring face off on Saturday night with Finley and Max Johnson.

Next, we have La’el Collins

We finally get an explanation on the La’el Collins suspension

When the NFL announced the five-game suspension for former LSU Tiger La’el Collins it raised some eyebrowns. Suspensions are usually four games for violation of the substance abuse policy. As time has gone on, more details have surfaced about the suspension. Collins didn’t test positive but he missed multiple tests leading to the suspension.

As our colleagues at the Cowboys Wire wrote, more details have surfaced including a bribery attempt for Collins.

On Saturday night, ESPN confirmed that Collins had attempted to bribe a drug test collector for the league and that’s why he got the weird length of banishment from his team. It appears that the NFLPA had successfully negotiated a shorter ban, but Collins insisted on an appeal and when the case was put in front of an arbitrator, he overruled the lightening of the sentence and re-established the five-game ban.

If the report is true of a bribery attempt for the former LSU offensive tackle, five games seem lenient for Collins. We will keep you updated on this story as it continues to unfold.
