LSU 2022 Transfer Portal Tracker: Keeping up with incoming and outgoing Tigers players this offseason

We’ve entered a new era in college football.

These days, players have more agency than ever before, and a major reason for that is the transfer portal. Where before a Letter of Intent essentially locked you into a program, every athlete is now granted a one-time transfer without sitting out.

As you can imagine, that has led to quite a change in how college programs approach the offseason, with many drawing comparisons between the new order of business and NFL free agency.

The transfer portal window officially opened on Monday, and players have 45 days to enter the portal before it closes. It will reopen again after spring practice.

With that in mind, here are the LSU players that have announced their intention to transfer, as well as any commits the Tigers have landed through the portal. We will keep this tracker updated as more players announce their decisions.

UPDATED 12/21

LB Antoine Sampah (Out)

A former top-100 prospect from Virginia, Sampah appeared in just six games in two seasons with the Tigers, recording no stats. He announced his intention to enter the portal in August and was not listed on the roster this season.

LB Phillip Webb (Out)

Syndication: Montgomery

Another former top-100 recruit, Webb played in three games last fall and totaled one tackle. Like Sampah, he announced his decision to transfer in August and was not listed on the roster.

CB Damarius McGhee (Out)

McGhee saw action in 12 games in 2021 as a true freshman, but he played in just one this fall — recording no stats — as he took a redshirt year. He will have three remaining seasons of eligibility at his next stop.

WR Jack Bech (Out, TCU)

Stephen Lew-USA TODAY Sports

One of the bigger portal surprises for LSU so far, Bech moves on after a quiet sophomore season to follow up a breakout true freshman campaign. After leading the team in catches in 2021, Bech had just 16 for 200 yards and a touchdown this season.

UPDATE: Bech announced his commitment to TCU on Dec. 18.

CB Raydarious Jones (Out, Mississippi State)

Jones appeared in 16 games in three years with LSU, making no starts and contributing sparingly with nine career tackles. He was suspended for all of 2022 for academic reasons.

Update: Jones announced his commitment to Mississippi State.

DE Desmond Little (Out)

Little has appeared in 12 games over the last two seasons but struggled to establish himself in the defensive end rotation after having 2.5 sacks in 2021. He’ll leave LSU’s depth situation a bit questionable at the edge.

TE Kole Taylor (Out)

With the emergency of Mason Taylor, Kole Taylor saw his production drop off despite playing in 13 games in 2022. He had just five catches for 55 yards this season, and he will take his talents and remaining eligibility elsewhere.

LB Kolbe Fields (Out)

Fields transferred in this past offseason after appearing in four games as a true freshman at South Carolina. He played in 11 for the Tigers in 2022, but he recorded just four total tackles and will re-enter the portal with four remaining years of eligibility.

OL Cameron Wire (Out, Tulane)

Wire appeared in 26 games over four years, starting 11 at both guard and tackle. He was supplanted this fall by Will Campbell and Emery Jones, appearing in just four games with one start. He’ll enter the transfer portal with one remaining season of eligibility.

Update: Wire announced his commitment to Tulane on Dec. 20.

DB Derrick Davis Jr. (Out)

Formerly the No. 1 overall safety in the 2021 class, Davis arrived at LSU last fall with high expectations. He played in 12 games last year with a minimal impact, but he saw action in just four games this year, totaling four tackles. He also saw a bit of action at running back due to injury. Davis enters the portal with three remaining years of eligibility.

OT Marcus Dumervil (Out)

Dumervil appeared in just 16 games over three years for the Tigers. The former top 150 recruit from powerhouse St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale struggled to find a spot in the rotation in 2022, appearing in just five games as a backup. In his announcement post, he said he’ll have three remaining years of eligibility at his next stop.

OL Xavier Hill (Out)

After appearing in just seven games in three years with two starts at left tackle, Hill — a Mississippi native — entered the portal with multiple years of eligibility remaining. Hill lost the starting left tackle job to Will Cambell this season.

DB Jaelyn Davis-Robinson (Out)

LSU suffered another loss in the secondary as true freshman cornerback and Waxahachie, Texas, native Jaelyn Davis-Robinson entered the transfer portal. He appeared in three games in his lone season in the Baton Rouge, totaling four tackles.

WR Aaron Anderson (In, Alabama)

Gary Cosby Jr.-USA TODAY Sports

The Tigers landed their first addition in the transfer portal on Sunday, and it was a big one. Anderson is a New Orleans native who was initially committed to LSU before flipping to Alabama. A former top-40 recruit, he spent most of his true freshman season in 2022 dealing with a knee injury. He made his debut against Austin Peay but didn’t record any stats.

DL Bradyn Swinson (In, Oregon)

Troy Wayrynen-USA TODAY Sports

Swinson is a Douglasville, Georgia, native who chose to transfer closer to home to join the Tigers. He also had a prior relationship with defensive line coach [autotag]Jamar Cain[/autotag], who recruited him at Arizona State. He started one of 30 games he appeared in, totaling three sacks and 35 tackles (5.5 for loss). He has two remaining years of eligibility.

DL Paris Shand (In, Arizona)

Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

Shand appeared in 23 games in three years at Arizona, totaling 41 tackles, five sacks and 5.5 tackles for loss. He also forced two fumbles. He’s 6-foot-5 and 295 pounds, and he should help the Tigers replace some of their losses on the end this offseason, namely [autotag]Ali Gaye[/autotag].

Jalen Lee (In, Florida)

Lee appeared in 25 games in three seasons with the Gators. A graduate of Live Oak High School in Weston, Louisiana, Lee returns to his home state after appearing in 12 games in 2022 with one start. He notched 19 tackles (three for loss), a sack and a forced fumble in his time at Florida.
