Love Van Gogh? Next: Immersive Michelangelo Sistine Chapel show coming to Kansas City

Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel: The Exhibition is coming to the Country Club Plaza.

The show, similar to the immersive Van Gogh exhibits touring the nation, will feature up-close and life-size versions of some of the artist’s masterpieces, including the iconic “The Creation of Adam” on the ceiling at the Vatican.

The Plaza’s website says it will open March 10 at 211 Nichols Road. That is the site of the former Halls department store. Tickets will be $19.20 per adult and $13.70 per child.

Hours will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays. The tour takes around 60 to 90 minutes. It will require face coverings regardless of vaccination status.

Tickets will be available onsite, but the exhibition recommends buying in advance, at sistinechapelexhibit.com/kansas-city. It offers military discounts and group discounts.

A Plaza spokeswoman directed questions to the exhibitors. Officials with the exhibit couldn’t be reached for comment Tuesday.

The traveling exhibit has been in major markets such as New York, and also will make stops in Europe, where some cities already have waiting lists.

The “Van Gogh Alive” exhibit at Starlight Theatre has been extended twice but will close Saturday. Tickets are $29.99-$55 at kcstarlight.com.

The competing “Immersive Van Gogh” touring exhibit is scheduled to open in Kansas City on Feb. 28 after a delay, but the venue has not been announced. Tickets are $39.99-$49.99 at kansascityvangogh.com.
