Louisville Cardinals radio analyst Bob Valvano, brother of Jim Valvano, announces cancer diagnosis
University of Louisville men's basketball analyst Bob Valvano has been diagnosed with leukemia and an aortic aneurysm, he announced on social media Monday. Doctors also detected some kidney damage, he shared.
His prognosis is "good," he added, and he doesn't yet "know when or if I need treatment for leukemia."
In addition to his work as color analyst for Louisville basketball, Valvano, 64, frequently appears on ESPNRadio and sometimes on ESPNU as a basketball analyst. He first came to Louisville in 1994 as head coach of Bellarmine University basketball.
He is also the brother of the late NC State coach Jim Valvano, whose own battle with cancer in the 1990s drew national attention. Bob Valvano has worked frequently over the years with the V Foundation for Cancer Research, founded in memory of his brother.
He added in a separate post Monday that his doctor is a former student of the oncologist that treated Jim Valvano.
