HOT PICK

Sunday

Folk: At the end of the '60s, folk singer-songwriter Loudon Wainwright III arrived on the scene following the success of artists such as Bob Dylan, Joan Baez and trio Peter, Paul and Mary. He's enjoyed a successful career ever since. In 2020, Wainwright collaborated with Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks for the album "I'd Rather Lead A Band" featuring songs by Irving Berlin, Fats Weller and others.

You can hear some of those songs for yourself on Sunday when Wainwright and Giordano perform together at the McCallum Theatre.

Aside from music, Wainwright also dabbles in acting and appeared as Capt. Calvin Spalding in the TV series "M*A*S*H," the man singing and playing guitar in "28 Days," Beamen in "Big Fish" and Dr. Howard in "Knocked Up."

Wainwright is also the father of singer-songwriters Rufus and Martha Wainwright.

If you go: 7 p.m. Sunday, McCallum Theatre, 73-000 Fred Waring Drive, Palm Desert. $35 to $85. 760-340-2787. mccallumtheatre.com
