Almost missed $1,000,000 lotto win: If Ontario's latest OLG jackpot winner hadn't checked his email, he wouldn't have seen his prize

'I would have missed out,' winner Saptharishi Sairam Ramadass said about his jackpot surprise

Saptharishi Sairam Ramadass of Nepean is now $1 million richer

A $1-million lotto winner from Ontario might have had a different fate if he didn’t closely check his e-mail inbox.

Saptharishi Sairam Ramadass of Nepean, Ont. is the winner of the Dec. 21 Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) Gold Ball Draw.

Ramadass admits that if he hadn’t signed up for an OLG account and subscription, he would have potentially missed his big win.

An OLG lottery subscription allows players to buy tickets easier and sends an e-mail alert to anyone who's won.

"If it wasn't for my subscription, I would have missed out on this win," the 48-year-old father said while picking up his cheque at the Toronto prize centre.

And his big win wasn't the last of it. There was a tiny bit of gravy atop too, because Ramadass’ ENCORE selection upped his $1-million jackpot by $5, making his total readings $1,000,005.

"When I opened my email, I saw a message from OLG that I haven't seen before, so I logged into my OLG account and saw I won $1,000,005!"

Overwhelmed with excitement, Ramadass shared the big news with his wife first.

"She was absolutely excited too,” he said.

As for what Ramadass plans to do with the money, he said that a tropical cruise in the Bahamas with his family is in the cards. He is also planning for an earlier retirement.
