A lot to cluck about: Huey Magoo's opens second Jacksonville-area chicken tender restaurant

Now open in Mandarin is Huey Magoo's Chicken Tenders, the second of six restaurants planned for the Jacksonville area.

The Orlando-based restaurant chain is known for its fresh, cooked-to-order grilled, hand-breaded or "sauced" premium chicken tenders.

The restaurant at 10560 Old St. Augustine Road is Huey Magoo’s 25th restaurant opening system-wide spanning five states, Andy Howard, company president and chief executive officer, said in a news release announcing the opening. And more are on the way: the chain has sold 225 franchises in nine states.

Veteran restaurateur Michael Phillips owns the franchise for the Mandarin store as well as the area's inaugural Huey Magoo's that debuted in October 2021 at 3952 3rd St. in South Regional Plaza at Jacksonville Beach.

Phillips also owns the franchises to four future Huey Magoo's coming to Duval County. The locations of those new restaurants, though, haven't been released.

"We're working on additional units in the Intracoastal market and the Arlington market. We're going to try to open one or two units a year for the next three years," Phillips previously told the Times-Union.

Phillips formerly owned multiple locations of Little Caesars Pizza and Jersey Mike's Subs.

The 2,400-square-foot Mandarin restaurant replaces a former Bank of America branch. The restaurant offers indoor seating, an outdoor patio and a drive-thru.

Huey Magoo’s was founded in 2004 by Matt Armstrong and Thad Hudgens. Since then, it's earned multiple awards under the company's motto: the “Filet Mignon of Chicken."
