Los Angeles Kings defenceman Alec Martinez suffered a laceration on his wrist after colliding with San Jose Sharks forward Melker Karlsson on Monday night.

Martinez underwent surgery to repair an artery and some nerves. The 32-year-old is expected to make a full recovery, per the team.

In the third period of the matchup, Karlsson’s skate appeared to come down on Martinez’s wrist, as the two went for a loose puck.

Those with big imaginations but squeamish stomachs might not want to watch the full video. Nothing can be directly seen, but there’s enough there to imagine the unfortunate result.

Martinez will be evaluated weekly, but no concrete timetable is set for his return.

Through 24 games played, he has five assists for the 9-13-2 Kings.
