As the Fourth of July approaches, community events are being promoted that encourage people to spend the holiday with others for the first time in two years.

Whether you want to kick the day off with a run or listen to live music or visit food and craft vendors, there are a variety of ways to celebrate, including professional fireworks shows.

Here are some events:

The event begins at 9 a.m. and will kick off with a fun run at town hall in Steilacoom. A street fair also will open on Lafayette Street.

According to a promotional flyer, events will be happening all day, including a parade at 1 p.m., tribal museum tours and a family street dance.

A fireworks show will cap off the celebration at 10 p.m.

After a three-year hiatus, Tacoma Summer Blast is back. With food trucks, live music and craft vendors, any person of any age can attend the event, which is sponsored by Metro Parks Tacoma and the City of Tacoma.

The Summer Blast celebration will take place on the Ruston Way Waterfront at Cummings Park and Dune Peninsula at Point Defiance. According to Metro Parks Tacoma, the celebration is expected to start at noon and close with a fireworks show over Commencement Bay that begins at 10 p.m.

At Cummings Park, the Family Zone will have free activities for the kids.
