LOOK: Michigan football’s highest 2022 priority wearing maize and blue

It’s no secret that Michigan football has its eyes set on one player above all others in 2022.

With defensive tackle continuing to be a position of need — despite having brought in three at the tail-end of the 2021 recruiting cycle — securing a behemoth in the middle is the utmost priority this year. And there are none better in 2022 than Cordova (TN) St. Benedict at Auburndale five-star Walter Nolen.

Nolen is being courted by every big name school in the country, which makes sense given that 247Sports has him as the No. 2 player nationally, regardless of position. Michigan has managed to get some traction with the elite defensive lineman, having gotten his first unofficial visit to campus some time back, some face time with the coaching staff at a satellite camp last month, and now it’s gotten him on campus again for his official visit.

Celebrating Father’s Day while in Ann Arbor, Nolen gave Michigan fans a glimpse of what it might look like if he were to don the maize and blue — though he wore the alternate uniform the Wolverines wore in the 2017 season opener against Florida. Posing with his dad, Nolen posted a picture to Twitter in those uniforms inside The Big House.

While there are no 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions for the five-star
DT, it’s huge that he managed to make it back to Ann Arbor. After his visit to Gainesville, it’s appeared that Florida made more than a strong impression on him, as he tweeted that he would be shutting down his recruiting process at that point. However he still managed to make visits, and a second visit to campus in recent months certainly can’t hurt Michigan’s chances.
