Marc Jacobs is set to receive the first ever Fashion Trailblazer Award at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards in partnership with the CFDA on Monday. Aug. 26. The award is made to honor fashion designers "who have made an indelible impact within the world of musical artist fashion," the MTV VMA's site reads.

Jacobs first crossed into the music space back in 1993 as a designer for Perry Ellis. His grunge-inspired collection famously got him fired from the brand and that same year, he used pieces from the line to dress members of the band Sonic Youth for their "Sugar Kane" music video.

And of course, Jacobs, 56, grew up with MTV in its heyday. He recently told Vogue that his original thoughts on MTV "were that, although it seemed like it had a commercial responsibility, it was definitely aware of what was cool."

Flash forward to a few decades later where Jacobs' stumbled across a vintage MTV sweater and ended up using the logo in his Spring 2017 resort collection.

"MTV always had the coolest graphics. It was very spot-on for what MTV was saying and who they were saying it to. It really spoke to me, and I think that generation of people at that time. I’ve maintained them in my memory bank, and they’ve never gone away. They’re iconic," Jacobs said.

But his ties to the music industry don't stop there. Over the years, the designer has featured the likes of Cher, Missy Elliot, Charlie XCX, Princess Nokia and Kurt Cobain's daughter, Frances Bean Cobain, in campaigns.

Not to mention, he's also dressed a huge number of musicians in some of their most remembered looks. Take Lady Gaga's David Bowie-inspired dress and pantsuit at the 2016 Grammy Awards or Miley Cyrus' punk rock sheer fishnet gown at the 2013 Met Gala.
