Longmont officers tase suspect, confiscate drugs

Aug. 16—A Longmont officer discharged his Taser when a suspect being pursued on foot refused to cooperate with the officer's commands to stop, and allegedly indicated he had a gun.

During the Aug. 8 incident, the officer observed a couple acting suspiciously when they exited a red Dodge Ram parked at a convenience store at 1500 Main Street. After a check of the vehicle's license plate furthered the officer's suspicions it was a stolen vehicle, he approached the vehicle while the man and woman ran from the officer.

As other officers arrived on scene and the woman was detained, the man was pursued on foot north on Main Street.

As the suspect proceeded into the doorway of a Main Street business and allegedly yelled, "I have a gun," the officer struck the suspect in the back with a Taser.

Despite being immobilized, the suspect allegedly continued defying the officer's commands. Additional officers arrived on the scene and assisted in handcuffing the suspect.

While awaiting medical attention, the suspect allegedly gave officers a false identification.

During a search of the truck, officers found multiple forms of identification that matched both the vehicle identification number and the identity of the suspect in custody. The man also had a felony warrant for a parole violation.

According to the police report, a K-9 search of the vehicle positively alerted officers to the presence of almost three grams of a crystalline substance that officers on site positively tested as methamphetamine.

After the suspect was released from Longmont United Hospital, he was taken to Boulder County Jail.
