Longmont fall leaf collection schedule begins Nov. 1

Oct. 22—Longmont will collect bagged leaves from the curbsides of residences north of Ninth Ave. on Nov. 1-5 and from residences south of Ninth on Nov. 8-12, city officials announced Thursday.

Free leaf bags are available at Longmont's Waste Diversion Center, 140 Martin St., while supplies last. Bags also are available for purchase at local home improvement stores throughout the city.

City officials asked that residents place their bagged leaves out at curbside before Monday of their scheduled collection week and to leave them out the entire week until they are collected. Only one pass will be made throughout each neighborhood, and any leaf bags put out after the collection day will not be collected by the city and will be the responsibility of the homeowner.

Leaves must be bagged, and paper bags are preferred to help reduce plastic waste, city staff said. No piles of unbagged leaves will be collected, and no other wastes or materials — such as branches, wood or trash — in the leaf pickup program.

Bagged leaves will not be collected in alleys or on private property. Even if a person's trash/recycling collection occurs in an alley, those leaves must be placed curbside in the front of the property for pick-up.

City staff said that for residents who miss the collection or have additional leaves, the Waste Diversion Center accepts yard-waste all year long and curbside composting subscribers can add leaves to their composting cart at any time, whether loose or in paper bags.
