Lonely Planet picks New Mexico as one of 30 place to inspire

Nov. 28—New Mexico is one of three U.S. entries on Lonely Planet's Best in Travel 2023 list of 30 Places to Inspire You.

New Mexico joins Alaska and Boise, Idaho, on a list "designed to help you dream, plan and go to the places that will be buzzing in the year ahead."

Lonely Planet does not expressly say the choices are off the beaten track, but some entries are Bhutan, Zambia, Nova Scotia, Kuala Lumpur, Malta and Accra, Ghana.

Lonely Planet placed six locations in each of five categories: Eat, Journey, Unwind, Connect, Learn. New Mexico fell into Learn.

"Home to 23 native tribes, this is an ideal spot to learn about indigenous culture, art and music while also enjoying the food and natural beauty of the American Southwest," Lonely Planet wrote for the New Mexico entry.

As top attractions, Lonely Planet listed Meow Wolf, the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum, Taos Pueblo, the Very Large Array, Chaco Culture Natural Historic Park, Acoma Pueblo, Spaceport America and White Sands National Park.
