Local trio claims titles at Vidlak Invitational

Dec. 4—MURPHY — South Medford freshman wrestler Brody Quinn was joined by Ashland's Will Downs and Rogue River's Basen Rambo in claiming championship titles Saturday at the Dan Vidlak Invitational at Hidden Valley High.

Quinn scored a pair of dominant wins at 113 pounds to reach his first varsity final, then delivered a pin of Mazama freshman Ben Boatright in 57 seconds to cap off his title run.

Coming off a runner-up showing Friday at the Phoenix Invitational, Downs dialed it up Saturday with three straight pins to reach the finals at 170, where the Grizzlies junior pinned Rogue River senior Ricardo Cook in 1 minute, 13 seconds.

Rambo, a senior at Rogue River, averaged about 34 seconds of mat time in pinning his way to the championship match at 126, where Rambo nearly went the distance before landing a fall over Mazama's Hadyn Burk in 5:55.

Placing second alongside Cook among the local contingent were Ashland's Ollie Teagarden (106), Rogue River's Anthony Isom (152) and Ashland's Kekoa Kaho'okaulana (285).

Owen Mathewson of Phoenix (145) and Alan Helsel of Ashland (182) each finished in third place.

Mazama cruised to the team title with 345 points, well ahead of runner-up North Eugene (190) in the 12-school tournament.
