Local roundup: Westchester's Hesling posts high finish

Sep. 21—CHARLOTTE — Westchester Country Day's Cruz Hesling placed inside the top 25 in the highest division of Saturday's Hare and Hounds XC Invitational at McAlpine Creek Park.

Hesling was 20th in 16:27.7 in the high school boys championship 5k.

No other runners, boys or girls, for the area competed in that division.

In the invitational 5k division, Bishop McGuinness was eighth (263 points) and Southwest Guilford was 29th (756) among 36 boys teams, while Southwest (253) was 10th, Westchester (333) was 12th and Bishop (525) was 19th among 32 girls teams.

Posting top-50 finishes were: Bishop's CJ Pacholke (11th, 16:55.4) and Ledford's Isaac Reyna (12th, 17:03.02) for the boys; Westchester's Ali Schwartz (fifth, 20:36.6) and Grace Evans (25th, 21:45.8), and Southwest's Amanda Pipkin (19th, 21:25.4) and Claire Monson (23rd, 21:28.4).

In the open 5k division, Bishop was 12th (317 points) among 29 boys teams. Alessandro Lopez-Morales was 24th in 19:37.7.

AT PFEIFFER INVITATIONAL

MISENHEIMER — Wheatmore finished first in the JV boys division of Saturday's Pfeiffer Invitational at Pfeiffer University.

Wheatmore had 33 points, followed by Davie County (41) and South Davidson (52).

On the girls side, South Stanly won with 32 points, trailed by Central Davidson (42) and Wheatmore (46).

Wheatmore's Zach Hazelwood won the boys race with a 20:30.3. Also posting top-10 finishes for the Warriors were Hayden Yates (fifth, 21:30.9) and Jimmy Smith (sixth, 21:37.4). Bryant Whitley (18th, 24:13.7) led East Davidson, while Owen McMillan (19th, 24:18.3) led Oak Grove.

Posting top-10 finishes in the girls race were: Wheatmore's Allison Hill (seventh, 29:58.8) and Brianna Hill (ninth, 30:33.7). Anna Felts (16th, 32:47.5) led East Davidson.

CAMDEN, S.C. — Davis DeLille of High Point tied for second in the 36-hole Creed Junior Invitational that ended Sunday at Camden Country Club.

DeLille was one of three golfers who shot rounds of 69-67 for a total of 4-under 136.

They finished two strokes behind Ethan Pascal of Fayetteville, who shot a final-round 62 to charge out of the pack after carding a first-round total of 72.
