Local roundup: Lisbon baseball opens season with convincing win

Apr. 16—LISBON — In its first baseball game since winning the Class C state championship in June 2019, Lisbon started fast and rolled to a 12-1 victory over Mountain Valley on Thursday.

The Greyhounds' offense put forth a 10-hit performance, and pitchers Mason Booker (three innings, eight strikeouts) and Nick Ferrence (two innings, four strikeouts) combined for a no-hitter.

Lisbon started fast, plating eight runs in the first inning. Hunter Brissette hit a three-run triple and Levi Tibbetts added a two-run double in the opening frame. Neil Larochelle drove in a pair of runs in the game, while Brissette, Booker and Jimmy Fitzsimmons each scored twice.

Alex Mazza scored the Falcons' lone run after reaching on an error in the fourth.

The Rebels took control with a seven-run fourth inning and then pulled away to defeat the Bucks in the season opener.

Buckfield scored five runs in the third inning to break a scoreless tie, then added another run in the fourth. But Telstar countered with one run in the bottom of the third and seven in the bottom of the fourth to take an 8-6 lead. The Rebels then plated four more runs in the sixth inning.

Cameron Palmer had three hits and Myles Lilly had two — each player had a double — for Telstar. Pitcher Cain Schuttzer went all seven innings on the mound to earn the win.

Hunter Driscoll and Roger "Taz" Keogh each had a pair of hits for the Bucks.

Chloe Walton tucked home the go-ahead goal with 1:41 remaining to lift the Black Bears (6-3, 6-1 America East) to an upset win over the Cardinal (7-1, 5-1) in Durham, New Hampshire.

Julia Ross and Brooke Sulinski also scored for Maine. Madisyn Hartley assisted on Sulinski's first-quarter goal.
