Local roundup: Griswold volleyball rallies past Waterford 3-2

Oct. 16—WATERFORD — Kuranda Ruggiero had 32 assists, eight digs and four kills as Griswold rallied to beat Waterford on Friday, 26-28, 25-23, 13-25, 25-20, 15-11, in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division II volleyball match.

Hailey Eliasson had 34 digs, Sonja Matheson had 17 kills, 14 digs and two aces and Kierra Neilson had six kills and four blocks for Griswold (9-4, 2-2).

Kate Lange had 10 digs and eight kills, Izzi Fraser had 18 assists, Erica Mugovero had 13 digs and Emerson Lane had six kills and four blocks for the Lancers (6-7, 1-3).

In other matches:

— Arianna Garcia had 41 digs and Kassidy LaTour added 27 assists as Lyman Memorial downed Ledyard 25-23, 26-24, 25-17 in an ECC Division II match. Callie Nanos had 17 kills for Lyman (7-2, 2-0) and Fallon Bailey had 12 kills. Grace Haydash had 16 digs and 10 kills, Bryleigh Johnson had 11 digs and Lavinia Hutchins had three aces and two blocks for the Colonels (11-4, 2-2).

— Simone Cappon had six kills and three aces as East Lyme swept Norwich Free Academy 25-12, 25-7, 25-14 in an ECC Division I match. Carolyn Place had eight assists for East Lyme (11-2, 4-0). The Wildcats are 2-9, 0-4.

— Whitney Barbour had four aces and Maggie Curtis added three kills as Old Lyme swept Cromwell 25-10, 25-13, 25-4 in a Shoreline Conference match. Old Lyme is 9-6, 8-6.

— Prince Tech beat Grasso Tech 25-13, 25-17, 25-19 in an Connecticut Technical Conference match. Sherly Caba had 14 digs and nine kills for the Eagles (2-10) and Alandra Johnson added two digs and a kill.

Girls' swimming

— Natalie Bezanson and Dylan Levine each won two events and both swam on a winning 400 relay team as NFA beat Waterford, 98-82, in an ECC meet. Bezanson won the 200 individual medley (2:47.42) and 400 freestyle (5:07.79) for NFA (4-4, 3-2) and Levine won the 50 (32.17) and 100 freestyle (1:09.48). The duo teamed with Mercedes Aleksjuka and Dianna Alarcon to win the 400 freestyle relay (5:02.22), Alarcon won the 100 freestyle (1:09.48) and Samantha Davey, Stephanie Herr, Stephanie Wells and Sierra Rosario combined to win the 200 freestyle relay (2:26.51). Elizabeth Saucier won the 100 backstroke (1:22.02), Erin Gerboth won the 200 freestyle (2:40.96) and both teamed with Elizabeth Blain and Julia Gathy to win the 200 medley relay (2:29.18) for the Lancers (1-7, 1-5). Also, Camille Caldrello won the diving (211.25 points) and Blain the 100 breaststroke (1:36.04).

H.S. field hockey

— Ashleigh Holmes had a goal and three assists for Fitch in a 4-0 win over NFA in an ECC game on Thursday. Alice Hu, Bridget O'Leary and Sophie Ash scored goals and Abriel Carey made two saves for Fitch (7-2-1, 5-1-1). Baylee Wilderman had 13 saves for NFA (2-9, 2-6).

College volleyball

— Natasha Shrivastava had 48 assists and nine digs as Connecticut College rallied to beat Hamilton 22-25, 25-12, 22-25, 25-18, 15-13 in a New England Small College Athletic Conference match. Christina Leduc had 17 digs, 13 kills and six aces for Conn (5-8, 2-6) and Katherine Randall had 19 kills and 16 digs. Melissa Morelli had 48 assists for the Continentals (6-7, 2-5) and Kate Carmen added 20 kills.

— Mitchell College lost to the University of Saint Joseph 3-2 on Thursday. Olivia DeLoach had 20 kills and 33 digs, Claire Binfield had 50 assists, Molly Steel-Miller had 14 kills and Bree Rudolph had 10 kills for Mitchell (4-11).
