Local roundup: Ferrer paces Schooners past SteepleCats

Jul. 3—NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Pawcatuck's Kevin Ferrer (UConn) went 3-for-4, including a two-run home run, and scored twice as the Mystic Schooners downed the North Adams SteepleCats, 10-7, in a New England Collegiate Baseball League game on Saturday night.

Stanton Leuthner (Stony Brook) had three hits, two RBI and a run for the Schooners (10-9) and Eddie Micheletti (George Washington) had two hits, including a double, with a run and an RBI. Also, Troy McGirt (Wake Forest) had two hits, including a double, and scored twice and Addison Kopack (Rhode Island) had two hits, a run and an RBI.

Scott Jones (Butler) had three hits, including two doubles, with two RBI and a run for the SteepleCats (5-17).

American Legion Zone 6

— Waterford improved to 13-3 in Zone 6 play with a sweep of Jewett City in American Legion baseball doubleheader. Waterford won the opener 13-1 and took the second game 13-0. Sean Salvador was the winner in the opener, allowing one hit and no runs over three innings with six strikeouts. Matt Reilly led the 18-hit attack with his 4-for-4 performance. Waterford scored seven runs in the second inning, capped by a two-run single by Bebo Martinez. Quinn Sylvia was the winner in Game 2, allowing two hits in five innings with nine strikeouts and no walks. Bryan Ingraham led the offense at 3-for-3 with two odubles and four RBI. Conner Rowe, Ken Miller, Reily and Ingraham had multiple hits in each game for Waterford. Jewett City is 0-14.

FCBL

— Pinch hitter C.J. Willis hit a walk-off two-run double with no outs as the Norwich Sea Unicorns scored three times in the bottom of the ninth inning to rally and beat the Worcester Bravehearts, 10-9. Matt Flaherty (three hits) singled to lead off the Norwich ninth and pinch runner Drew Kron advanced to third base when Mitchell College's Bo Yaworksi singled, the latter who took second on the throw to third. Kron scored on a wild pitch, Jared Zimbardo singled and Willis followed with his double. Yaworski went 3-for-5 and scored twice for the Sea Unicorns (17-16). Cam Seymour hit a three-run home run for the Bravehearts (15-17).

— Colton Shaw had a triple, a run and an RBI as the New Britain Bees beat the Norwich Sea Unicorns on Friday night, 5-3. Tyler Pettorini had two hits and two RBI, Ryan Daniels had a single, run and an RBI and Teddy Schoenfeld scored twice for New Britain (17-15). Tyler Kipp had two hits and an RBI, Nick Sturino had two hits and scored and Montville's Dougie DelaCruz singled and scored for the Sea Unicorns (16-16).

District 10 softball (8-10)

— Isabella Kobyluck hit a walk-off two run single and pitched a complete game, striking out 10, as Montville beat Waterford, 6-5. Emma Voight and Taylor Sheriff walked to lead off the Montville sixth inning and Harper Hedrick hit an RBI double to break up a no-hitter and cut Waterford's lead to a run. Reese Firmin and Sadie Silvestri combined on a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts for Waterford and Ava Vargas singled and scored twice.

— Mikaela Richter struck out nine and added three hits at the plate as East Lyme beat Groton/Mystic, 17-7. Bryn Glidewell tripled with the bases loaded for East Lyme and Lilah Chantrell and Molly Gault both singled. Haley Sequara had two hits, two runs and two RBI for Groton/Mystic.

District 10 baseball (10-12)

— Holden Salemma pitched a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts as Mystic beat Stonington on Friday night, 5-1. Bryce Williams had two RBI for Mystic and Mason Williams and Evan Spade each had two hits. Nate Machicinski allowed two runs over 4.2 innings for Stonington and Emmett Reichert singled.

— Jameson Barlow struck out nine in five innings as Waterford edged East Lyme, 4-3, on Friday night. Carson Gallerani had a double and two RBI for Waterford and Quin Robinson drove in two runs. Cooper Siragusa doubled twice for East Lyme.

District 10 baseball (8-10)

— Maddox Salemma threw 5 2/3 innings of two hit ball with no walks and five strikeouts and Kobie Sharpe struck out the last batter of the game to preserve Mystic's 3-1 victory over Waterford on Friday. Cayden King had two hits for Mystic.
