LOCAL ROUNDUP: Central softball cruises past Grimsley

Apr. 17—GREENSBORO — High Point Central routed host Grimsley 14-1 in a Metro 4A contest stopped after five innings Thursday because of a mercy rule.

The Bison (6-2 overall, 4-1 Metro) scored in every inning, putting the game away with four in the fourth and six in the fifth.

Abbie Behe went 4 for 4 with a double and two triples and two RBIs to lead Central, while Kori Lemon, who tripled, and Kayla Richard, who doubled, each had two hits and two RBIs.

Alexis Oxendine also had a hit and two RBIs, Heather Jimenenez had a hit and one RBI, and Lea Kolbert had two hits.

Oxendine got the complete-game win in the circle, striking out 12.

GLENN, DAVIE

MOCKSVILLE — Davie broke a tie with three runs in the bottom of the sixth and defeated Glenn 10-7 in Central Piedmont 4A action Thursday at Davie.

Erika Clinard went the distance in the circle for the Ladycats. She allowed seven hits and five earned runs, struck out eight and walked three.

Leading hitters for Glenn (2-7 overall, 1-5 CPC), which belted 12 hits, were Sydney Parsons 2 for 4, Clinard 1 for 1, Riley Blake 3 for 4, Ivey Sigmon 2 for 4; and Madisyn Wilson 2 for 4.

PROVIDENCE GROVE, TRINITY

TRINITY — Providence Grove Blanked host Trinity 16-0 in a PAC-7 2A game stopped after four innings because of a mercy rule Thursday.

The Patriots scored six in the second, seven in the third and three in the fourth. The Bulldogs dropped to 0-7 both overall and in the conference.

TENNIS WESLEYAN, HP CHRISTIAN

GREENSBORO — Wesleyan Christian swept host High Point Christian 9-0 at Sedgefield Country Club on Thursday.

Logan Prillaman, Duncan Bell, John Wagner, Ben McCain, Luke Rudolph and Lucas Newton won singles matches. Winning doubles teams were Prillaman/Bell, Wagner/McCain and Rudolph/ Newton.

BISHOP, E. SURRY

PILOT MOUNTAIN — Bishop McGuinness won all but one singles match and defeated East Surry 8-1 on Thursday at East Surry.

Grant Wilson, Timothy Hackman, Joshua Hanflink, Connor Whalen and Evan Strugill were singles winners for the Villains (7-1). The Bishop teams of Bobby Peters/Wilson, Hackman/Hanflick and Arrington Culbertson/Jake Whalen won in doubles.

East Surry drops to 0-4.

SOCCER WESLEYAN, GBORO DAY

GREENSBORO — Caroline Heywood scored two goals and Kayla Burroughs had one for Wesleyan Christian in a 3-1 victory at Greensboro Day on Thursday.

Ella Heywood, Burroughs and Molly Crim each had an assist for the Trojans (7-1), who also got four saves from Kloe Totel in goal.

SW GUILFORD, WILLIAMS

BURLINGTON — Southwest Guilford did all of its scoring in the second half and defeated Williams High 2-0 in a nonconference match Thursday at Williams.

Kendall France scored both goals for the Cowgirls (7-1-1), while Hannah Jane Christman and Kaitlyn Wykoff each had an assist.

Jamie Oleson and Laurel Collins combined for the shutout in goal.

RAGSDALE, HP CENTRAL

HIGH POINT — Ragsdale blanked host High Point Central 8-0 in a Metro 4A match on Thursday.

The Tigers, who led 3-0 at halftime, improved to 4-3-1 overall and 2-3 in the conference, while the Bison dipped to 0-7 and 0-5.

REAGAN, GLENN

PFAFFTOWN — Reagan topped visiting Glenn 10-1 in a Central Piedmont 4A match Thursday.

GRAY STONE DAY, LEDFORD

MISENHEIMER — Gray Stone Day shut down visiting Ledford 5-0 in a nonconference match Thursday. The Knights led 3-0 at the half.

The Panthers dropped to 0-7 overall.

ADVANCE — Bishop McGuinness finished fourth in a five team match Thursday at Oak Valley.

West Forsyth's gold team finished with a 145 total and edged R.J. Reynolds's gold team by a stroke. Reynolds' black team was third at 153, followed by Bishop at 158 and West Forsyth's black team at 179.

Sam Haggas (38), Scott Craven (40), Daniel Jones (40) and Josh Fisher (40) were counting scorers for the Villains.
