LOCAL ROUNDUP: Central soccer wins against Eastern

Sep. 17—GIBSONVILLE — Bryan Rivera scored the match's only goal and High Point Central defeated host Eastern Guilford 1-0 in Mid-State 3A Conference boys soccer Wednesday.

The Bison improved to 1-4 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

WHEATMORE, RANDLEMAN

TRINITY — Wheatmore turned back visiting Randleman 8-1 in a Piedmont Athletic 1A/2A match Wednesday.

The Warriors, who led 4-1 at the half, improved to 1-5 and 1-1 in the league. Randleman is 0-9, 0-3.

NC LEADERSHIP, CLOVER GARDEN

BURLINGTON — Cade Shoemaker, David Truhe and Anakin Leister all scored three goals as they helped N.C. Leadership Academy defeated Clover Garden 11-2 on Wednesday afternoon.

Troy Shoemaker and William Blake added a goal each for N.C. Leadership, which led 6-2 at halftime. Troy Shoemaker was credited with two assists, and Lester, Truhe, Brandon Mendoza and Cade Shoemaker had one each.

BISHOP, CHRIST THE KING

HUNTERSVILLE — Christ the King blanked visiting Bishop McGuinness 8-0 in nonconference soccer Wednesday.

The Crusaders led by five goals at halftime.

TRINITY, SW RANDOLPH

FARMER — Trinity scored in the second half and edged Southwestern Randolph 1-0 in Piedmont Athletic 2A/1A play on Wednesday. The visiting Bulldogs improved to 5-2 and 2-0. Southwestern falls to 3-2, 1-1.

W. DAVIDSON, THOMASVILLE

THOMASVILLE — All of the scoring was in the first half as West Davidson defeated host Thomasville 8-1 in Central Carolina 2A/1A action on Wednesday.

GLENN, REAGAN

PFAFFTOWN — Glenn topped Reagan 4-1 in Central Piedmont 4A Conference boys soccer Wednesday at Reagan. The Bobcats improved to 3-4-2 overall and 1-0-1 in the CPC.

VOLLEYBALL LEDFORD, MONTGOMERY CENTRAL

TROY — Ledford defeated host Montgomery Central 25-12, 25-21, 25-13 in Mid-Piedmont 3A action on Wednesday. Logan Palmer provided 26 digs and five aces for the Panthers (4-4, 1-1 MPC 3A). Kensie Price dished 39 assists. Charlotte Gray spiked 13 kills and Lily Peele had 10.

OAK GROVE, N. DAVIDSON

MIDWAY — Oak Grove swept North Davidson 25-18, 25-22, 25-21 in Mid-Piedmont 3A play Wednesday at Oak Grove. Maya Slate led the Grizzlies with 11 kills, and Ciara Major and Bella Grieser had nine each. Olivia Dixon popped 18 digs followed by Alissa Russ with 12 and Jenna Gadd with 11. Vanessa Young dished 30 assists.

TRINITY, HP CENTRAL

TRINITY — Trinity topped High Point Central 25-14, 25-12, 25-19 in nonconference volleyball Wednesday at Trinity. Gracie Ballard had 11 kills to lead the Bulldogs. Sarabeth Johnson added 10 kills and five aces. Kaitlyn McCoy had seven aces, Leah Ballard had 12 digs, and Madison Burgiss had 26 assists. Trinity improved to 5-6 overall while the Bison dipped to 5-5.

SW GUILFORD, McMICHAEL

MAYODAN — Southwest Guilford fell 25-8, 25-13, 26-24 against McMichael in nonconference volleyball Wednesday at McMichael. The Cowgirls dropped to 3-9 overall.

HIGH POINT — Page defeated Southwest Guilford 7-2 in a Metro 4A match on the Southwest courts Wednesday. Audrey Serb and Anna McGinnis won singles matches for the Cowgirls, who dropped to 4-6 and 3-5.

E. DAVIDSON, LEXINGTON

THOMASVILLE — East Davidson fell 6-3 against Lexington in Central Carolina 1A/2A Conference girls tennis Wednesday at East. Alexa Williams won in singles for the Golden Eagles (2-7 overall, 1-4 conference) while Williams/Nikki Beal and Calysa Comer/Gisselle Miranda Flores won in doubles.

RAGSDALE, N. GUILFORD

GREENSBORO — Ragsdale rolled past Northern Guilford 5-1 in Metro 4A Conference girls tennis Wednesday at Northern. Ruby Kemp, Caroline Mott, Ella Perez, Cameron Wright and Emma McNamara won in singles for the Tigers (6-5 overall, 4-4 conference).

CROSS-COUNTRY AT SOUTHWEST GUILFORD

HIGH POINT — Southwest Guilford's boys and girls combined for 10 top-10 finishes during Wednesday's meet against Cornerstone Charter and NC Leadership Academy at Southwest.

Southwest, with the lone team total, posted 15 points in the girls race, while Cornerstone totaled 23 points, followed by NCLA (46) and Southwest (60) in the boys race.

Finishing in the top 10 for Southwest were: Claire Monson (first, 23:15.61), Carolyn Isabel Davis (second, 24:06.63), Lauren Ingram (third, 26:37.56), Rosemary Monson (fourth, 27:48.61), Aubrey Smith-Walker (sixth, 30:06.04), Taegan Johnson (seventh, 30:06.71), Haynes Nick (ninth, 30:17.72) and Kory Lloyd (10th, 30:44.14) for the girls; and Samuel Ivey (eighth, 22:45.97) and Stirling Gould (10th, 23:21.92).

WALLBURG — Ledford won the boys race and posted two more top-10 finishes during Tuesday's meet against Central Davidson and Asheboro at Ledford.

Isaac Reyna won the boys race in 18:52 to lead the Panthers, followed by Jose Ontiveros in fourth in 20:43.

Brea White finished fourth in the girls race in 25:32.

Central Davidson won the girls team total with 18 points, trailed by Ledford with 45 points. Central Davidson also won the boys total with 32 points, followed by Asheboro with 45 points and Ledford with 50 points.
