LOCAL ROUNDUP: Central postpones two football games

Sep. 23—HIGH POINT — High Point Central will postpone its next two football games due to COVID protocols.

The Bison's road game Friday at Eastern Guilford to open Mid-State 3A Conference play will now be Tuesday, Oct. 5, at 7 p.m. And their home game Sept. 30 against Northeast Guilford will now be Tuesday, Oct. 12, at 7 p.m.

Central also has home games scheduled those Fridays against Rockingham County on Oct. 8 and against Smith on Oct. 15.

VOLLEYBALL

HP CENTRAL, S. GUILFORD

HIGH POINT — High Point Central swept Southern Guilford 3-0 in Mid-State 3A Conference volleyball Tuesday at Central.

The Bison improved to 7-6 overall and 5-1 in the conference. The Storm dropped to 4-9 and 4-3.

SW GUILFORD, NW GUILFORD

HIGH POINT — Northwest Guilford defeated Southwest Guilford 25-10, 25-20, 25-19 in Metro 4A Conference volleyball Tuesday at Southwest.

The Cowgirls dipped to 4-10 overall and 2-5 in the conference.

WHEATMORE, PROVIDENCE GROVE

TRINITY — Wheatmore defeated Providence Grove 25-16, 25-23, 21-25, 25-11 in Piedmont Athletic 1A/2A Conference volleyball at Wheatmore.

Taghan Mooney had 46 assists, 30 digs and two aces for the Warriors (4-7 overall, 2-4 conference). Taylor Richardson had 11 kills, one block and four digs. Haley Hedrick had nine kills, 15 digs and one ace, and Haley Pease had 16 kills and 14 digs.

WESTCHESTER CD, FORSYTH CD

LEWISVILLE — Westchester Country Day fell 25-21, 25-9, 25-10 against Forsyth Country Day in PTAC volleyball Tuesday at Forsyth Country Day.

Olivia Cecil had 10 digs and four kills while Anna Beth Merritt had 12 digs and 10 assists to lead the Wildcats (4-4 overall, 0-2 conference).

In the JV match, Westchester won 25-17, 25-13. Mallory Atkinson had 10 digs, seven aces and 10 assists, while Natalie Seperteladze had 10 digs and two aces, and Sutton Scott had eight digs, three kills and two aces. Cassie Woodall added nine digs and five aces, and Ava Klein had four kills and one block.

BISHOP, BETHANY CHARTER

SUMMERFIELD — Bishop McGuinness cruised past Bethany Charter 25-10, 25-11, 25-7 in Northwest Piedmont 1A Conference volleyball Tuesday at Bethany.

Chrisbel Alcantara had four kills and four aces for the Villains (8-2 overall, 4-0 conference), ranked No. 4 among NCHSAA 1A West teams. Olivia Moreau added four kills and two aces, while Nina Cancro had nine assists, five aces, three digs and one kill and Erin Pitman had five digs, five aces and six assists.

HP CHRISTIAN, CALVARY DAY

HIGH POINT — High Point Christian swept Calvary Day 3-0 in PTAC volleyball Tuesday at HPCA.

The Cougars improved to 11-6 overall and 2-0 in the conference.

E. DAVIDSON, W. DAVIDSON

THOMASVILLE — East Davidson fell 23-25, 25-19, 25-15, 23-25, 15-12 against West Davidson in Central Carolina 1A/2A Conference volleyball at East.

Lyndsay Reid had 24 kills, 17 digs and four aces to lead the Golden Eagles. Kaitlyn Wallace added 16 assists, 10 digs and five aces. Emma Anderson chipped in 11 digs, while Kara Mahan had 18 assists and 10 digs.

East dropped to 7-5 overall and 5-1 in the conference.

GLENN, DAVIE CO.

KERNERSVILLE — Glenn lost 25-19, 25-13, 25-17 against Davie County in Central Piedmont 4A Conference volleyball Tuesday at Glenn.

The Ladycats dipped to 8-4 overall and 3-4 in the conference.

RAGSDALE, W. GUILFORD

GREENSBORO — Western Guilford defeated Ragsdale 25-11, 25-13, 25-7 in Metro 4A Conference volleyball Tuesday at Western.

The Tigers dropped to 7-7 overall and 0-6 in the conference.

THOMASVILLE, LEXINGTON

LEXINGTON — Thomasville lost 3-0 against Lexington in Central Carolina 1A/2A Conference volleyball Tuesday at Lexington.

The Bulldogs dropped to 0-10 overall and 0-7 in the conference.

TRINITY, E. RANDOLPH

RAMSEUR — Trinity swept past Eastern Randolph 25-23, 25-22, 25-13 in Piedmont Athletic 1A/2A Conference volleyball Tuesday at ER.

Gracie Ballard had 14 kills, nine digs and one block to lead the Bulldogs. Kaitlyn McCoy had seven kills and two blocks, and Karrington Batten had seven kills and one block. Madison Burgiss had 24 assists, seven digs and three aces, while Leah Ballard had 11 digs and three assists.

WESTCHESTER CD, FORSYTH CD

LEWISVILLE — Westchester Country Day shut out Forsyth Country Day 4-0 in PTAC boys soccer Tuesday at Forsyth Country Day.

Cleveland Armentrout had three goals while Max Verellen had one for the Wildcats (7-2 overall, 2-1 conference), ranked No. 8 among NCISAA 2A teams.

Bo Brigman, Carter Scavo and Quinto Keomalaythong each had an assist.

Grey Lunnen and George Marsh split time in goal.
