‘Local Lover’ online restaurant and retail passport nets St. Paul shoppers discounts and a t-shirt in February

St. Paul restaurants and retailers offer free buy-one, get-one-free promotions and other discounts through the “Local Lover” online passport, organized by the city’s tourism bureau. To sweeten the deals in time for Valentine’s Day, Visit St. Paul is distributing free “Local Lover Saint Paul” t-shirts to participants through the month of February.

There’s no app to download or subscription fee. Instead, sign up at visitsaintpaul.com/locallover with your phone number and email. A text or email link will take you to the passport page where you can log visits to Candyland, the Naughty Greek, Camp Bar’s Laugh Camp Comedy Club, Bang Brewing Company, Holman’s Table and 24 other participating venues.

Each time you use a promotion, you’ll receive 100 points. Then click the “Rewards” tab on your passport to redeem 100 points for a “Local Lover Saint Paul” t-shirt available at Nina’s Coffee Cafe at 165 Western Ave. N., while supplies last.

“The pass is available all year-round, but the promotion for February is around showing your local love,” said Jaimee Lucke Hendrikson, vice president of marketing and partnership with Visit St. Paul.

Pro tip: The passport can be added to an icon on your smartphone home screen for convenience, much like an app, without taking up as much space as an app on your phone.

To access the discounts and promotions, simply hand your phone across the register at participating businesses. You’ll also be entered to win gift cards at some locations.

The 28 participating shops and venues run a wide gamut from Landmark Jewelers Co. to Legacy Chocolates, the Minnesota Transportation Museum and Red Balloon Bookshop.

“We’d love to see that list grow to twice as many businesses, but I think it’s a really good mix right now of really good spots in St. Paul,” Hendrickson said. “It’s a great value.”
